The choir grew along with the gymnasium (high school, in danish) and has all the
time benefited from the singing in the Royal Chapel Choir and the Sankt Annæ
Girls' Choir. From 1952 to 1966 it was a girls' choir led by Helga Christensen.
From 1966 to 1974 it was a mixed youth choir conducted by Arne Berg. From 1974
to 1982 the choir was led by Finn Hørsted and Ulrik
Soelberg. Throughout the entire period the choir has sung a repertoire, with
emphasis on classical music, all the way from Schütz to Britten and the new
rhytmic music from the 20th century. In Denmark the choir has mostly sung in
churches in Copenhagen and on Sjælland. In march 1980 the first Choir Tour took
place, to Israel. In 1982 Ebbe Munk became the conductor for Sankt Annæ Youth Choir. During Ebbe Munks tenure the choir grew in numbers to more than 200 singers, the choir began its cooperation with the Copenhagen Philharmonic and the Chamber Choir of Sankt Annæ Youth Choir was formed. When Ebbe Munk left Sankt Annæ Youth Choir to became conductor of the Royal Chapel Choir, Michael Bojesen took over the leadership of the Youth Choir. Mr. Bojesen expanded the contemporary, rhytmic repertoire, without neglecting the classic repertoire. 2001 the present leader of the choir, Flemming Windekilde, took over. |
